The Stone

The foundation stone of TTF was discovered one day as Jette was out for a stroll on the beach. Walking leisurely in an easterly wind, she was pondering whether to substitute a nice steady job and the prospect of a substantial pension for the more turbulent life of a self-employed business woman.

Jette bent over, found a rock, and gripped it tightly. The first words that entered her mind would guide her future existence. Four words came to her:

  • Texts
  • Photography
  • Travels
  • Adventure

Today, texts and photography are firmly integrated in our company name: Tybjerg Text & Photography/Tybjeg Tekst & Foto. Travelling and adventures have resulted in hundreds of carefully illustrated articles and books on travelling, books that have been published in both Danish and international media, with a total of millions of readers.

Travelling would quickly become an essential part of our activities.

The Spider

At about the same time, Casper was studying biology like he had always dreamt of doing. It was while he was doing field-work for a course in zoology in the scenic Mols area that he made a fateful discovery which would forever change the direction his fate was to take: he discovered a lizard hanging from a spider's web. The lizard had been killed by a garden spider. Thus, the myth of David and Goliath was acted out on a very ordinary summer’s morning on a very ordinary Danish meadow. A similar discovery had never been scientifically recorded, and Casper's professor urged him to write an article about his discovery. Consequently, the need for photographic skills for documentation purposes arose. Immediately, Casper felt flames of motivation rise inside him and he realised that the path of his life would not lead him towards science but towards communication.

From the Past to the Present

Not long after the experience with the spider things began picking up speed. We managed to get a good rapport going with the renowned Danish company ’JP/Politikens hus’ which comprises both a newspaper and a publishing house. Furthermore, a meeting with the Aarhus based publishing house Klematis resulted in our two first book contracts. We were quick to realise that we had the potential for creating a firm specialising in text production and photography. Before long, we were regularly producing material for both large and small companies in the media sector.

Since then, we have gradually diversified. After our photograph of a Micrommata virescens, or green huntsman spider, was chosen as the best Danish photo in the category nature, in competition with 5,000 other photographers, our customer base grew rapidly.

This emerald coloured spider was to have a significant impact on TTF. An enlarged image can be found in our nature gallery.

We found out that the combination of texts and images is not only useful for books and articles but also for booklets, homepages, advertising, as well as for large-scale communications projects. As we diversified we became increasingly busy. With time, we have set up an efficient network of suppliers and associates that helps us optimise our products.

From the Present to the Future

At present, we produce material for a wide range of customers, and as the 'Cases' menu illustrates our assignments are highly varied. This homepage allows you to get a behind-the-scenes look at how we work.

The importance of photography to our activities is steadily increasing. When Casper was chosen as the first Danish Nikon ambassador, at the age of only twenty-nine, the photography related part of our work went into overdrive. Shortly hereafter, we hired Karina, a skilled lithographic artist, and she began the production of our first series of books in cooperation with photo chain-store CLICK. Today, our free online School of Photography is one of the busiests places on our homepage.

Our involvement with photography became even more profound when Casper was employed as photography instructor by the Danish Ministry of Defence. It is presently Casper’s responsibility that Danish army press officers (PIOs) learn to produce quality pictures before they are sent on missions abroad.

The Future

We have plans for many exciting future projects, in Denmark, as well as internationally. Some of the more expansive projects we are currently working on are scheduled to run for another four or five years. And we continually launch new projects. If you would like to follow our adventures just check out our homepage occasionally. The overall goal of all our future projects, and the mission of our firm, is to prove that the world is actually a great place to live!
