Slideshows

By now, the digital camera has ousted the analog camera. What do you do when you return from your vacation with 600 digital images? In the old days you went to the photo store to have your film developed. Your prints were then arranged in an album that you could show to your friends and relatives if you wanted to. This is not quite possible with digital images. On this page, you will find some advice on how to create a dynamic slideshow of your digital images, fast and efficiently.

Save Some Time
Not long ago, making a slideshow was quite time consuming. First, you had to sort your images. Then, you needed to convert them into a format that was easy to work with when you had to store them all in one file. Finally, you were able to arrange your images photo by photo, using programs such as, for instance, PowerPoint. Arranging a slideshow of 80-100 images would easily take you half a day.

Fortunately, things have changed. At present, there are several programs on the market that will enable you to produce slideshows simply by hitting a key on your keyboard – easy and efficient. Using the automatic functions available in modern programs will really help you save a lot of time.

If your images are stored in the JPEG format (read more about JPEG in the section on image format) Windows can run a slideshow automatically. This feature is quick and it works well, it does, however, not allow you the same possibilities for creative use as other product on the market.

Add Music

Several producers of software have seen the need for creating slideshows quickly and easily from large volumes of digital images. This has led to the development of numerous programs that are useful for amateur photographers, semiprofessionals, as well as professionals.

Using programs such as these will allow you to create a slideshow in few minutes. The first step is to locate the folder in which you store your digital images. Secondly, you choose the image you want for your slideshow. The program will then automatically generate a slideshow, and you will be able to define what type of transition you want between individual images and, even more important, how long individual images should remain on the screen.

The program will, however, also allow you other possibilities. For instance, it is very easy to add captions and music to your slideshow. If you have files containing music stored somewhere on your hard disk you can ask the program to match the music to your slideshow.  This will create a lively and atmospheric slideshow, and it is even extremely easy to do.

View Your Slideshow on Your TV Set.

When you have created a slideshow you will at first only be able to view it on the computer you are working on.  This is a problem if you are going away for the weekend and you would like to show your images to the rest of your family. There is, however, no need to despair.

The program you have used will let you burn your slideshows on a CD or DVD.  All the elements you have used will be burnt together on the disc as one portable slideshow. You can now take the disc you have just burnt along for the weekend. It will play on all computers and even on DVD players. This means that you will be able to show your slideshow, including music and texts, on any TV set.
