Transporting Equipment – Bags and Cases
A high level of mobility is an important expertise of our company. The world is our work place, and in order to succeed with our mission we need to be able to reach and work in any type of environment. For this very reason we have given a lot of thought to the transportation of our camera equipment.

To and From a Destination
During the past few years, heightened safety measures and increasing fuel prices have contributed to make travelling by plane much more difficult.  You can no longer show up at the check in dragging along a huge bag of camera equipment and expect to be allowed to bring it along with you inside the cabin.  We often travel with more than 30 kilos of camera equipment, when this is the case, you have no other option than checking in your equipment along with the rest of your luggage.
We surpassed ourselves in 2004 when we checked in 125 kilos of equipment with Icelandair. Fortunately, we had made a special deal with the company beforehand, nevertheless, the airline employees were somewhat stunned when we showed them our luggage and presented tickets for only two people at the desk!
For checking in our equipment we use unbreakable cases produced by PeliCase. So far, out equipment has travelled around the world several times without being damaged.

Our photo equipment has travelled around the world several times in PeliCases.

Another good thing about PeliCases is that their cases are also very useful when we reach our destination. We sometimes need to travel on from the airport to the area where our subjects are located by small plane, in a four wheel driven vehicle, or by boat. Sometimes we have to strap our equipment to the roof of a four wheel driven vehicle. Crossing a desert at great speed is a dusty business, and for this reason we need to store our equipment sensibly.

These cases are very good at keeping out dust, sand, salt, and water. Our equipment has never been damaged (yet) when we were travelling, and we hope that it stays that way.

Backpacks
We often need to walk the last piece of road to our subjects. When we have to walk we store our equipment in backpacks manufactured by LowePro. We own several of these backpacks of different types. We also use these backpacks for storing and organising our equipment for routine tasks at home.

Our equipment has finally arrived at a high alpine plain on Mount Kenya. We have had to drag it to this elevation of 4,000 meters ourselves.  This is one reason why we demand usefulness and comfort from our backpacks.

Regardless what bags and cases we use the requirement is the same: transporting our camera equipment to and from the location of an assignment in a safe and efficient way.
